October 3, 2019

Are you searching for a great Halloween party craft for kids?  Look no further – this is it!  Kids will LOVE making this paper plate candy corn wreath craft, and you’ll love how easy and inexpensive it is to put together.  It’s a sweet Halloween craft project that’s wonderful for kids of all ages.

This Halloween kids craft is so cute! Make a paper plate candy corn wreath to display and enjoy!

Would you ever think to turn paper plates into candy corn?  Kind of crazy, right?  But we actually used our paper plate candy corn to make two other projects, too!  You might also want to check out our Candy Corn Counting Game (also a great Halloween party game!), and our Candy Corn Garland!

To get started on making this candy corn wreath (or any of our other candy corn projects), first read this post on How to Make Paper Plate Candy Corn.

After you’ve made the candy corn pieces for the wreath, you’ll be ready to go with this part of the project!

Here are the supplies you’ll need to make the wreath:

  • Candy corn pieces made from the How to Make Paper Plate Candy Corn tutorial
  • Another paper plate (we used a black paper plate for contrast)
  • Glue
  • Ribbon (we used three types of ribbon in three colors to add some contrast)

Now, get ready to make a cute Halloween wreath!

Begin by cutting the center circle out of the paper plate.

Learn how to make a wreath with paper plates! It's so easy and cute!

Next, create a bow with craft ribbon, and glue that to the top of the paper plate.

Add a festive bow to the paper plate wreath.

Our bow is not fancy – it’s just three types of ribbon knotted together!  You can make the bow as simple or fancy as you like!

Finally, glue the paper plate candy corn pieces all around the open part of the paper plate.  If you need to trim some of the candy corn pieces to get them to fit, that is totally fine!  The candy corn will still look great!

Kids love this Halloween craft! Make a candy corn wreath with paper plates!

Because this is a Halloween craft for kids, we used school glue to make this candy corn wreath.  That required us to set the wreath aside to dry.  If you’re short on time or want the glue to dry faster, you could use a glue stick or a hot glue gun (with adult supervision and/or operation, of course!).

This paper plate candy corn wreath is an awesome Halloween party craft for kids!

Kids will love bringing their candy corn wreaths home and displaying them proudly on the door or anywhere else in the home!

A candy corn wreath made with paper plates is such a fun kids craft.

This Halloween paper plate craft is definitely sweet, don’t you think?

How to Make Candy Corn from Paper Plates

Our yellow ring of paint extended from the outer edge of the paper plate to the inner circle.

Step Two

Now, add a bit of orange craft paint to the paper plate paint palette.  Add a ring of orange paint underneath the ring of yellow paint – making sure to leave a white circle in the middle of the paper plate.

Paper plate candy corn is so fun to make! And easy, too!

Step Three

Let the paint dry completely.  If you apply a thin layer of craft paint, this won’t take too long.

These paper plates will become candy corn crafts!

TIP: if you’re pressed for time or making these candy corn crafts at a Halloween party or in a classroom setting, consider using markers or oil pastels instead!  That will speed up the craft since drying time is eliminated.

Step Four

Once the paint is dry, begin cutting the paper plate into triangle shapes, just like a pie.

Learn how to make a candy corn craft in this post.

For our candy corn craft, we ended up with six triangles, but you could have more if you cut the triangles at a narrower angle.  Paper plate candy corn is so fun to make!

Step Five

Next, carefully round the pointed edge of the candy corn with the scissors.  Learn how to make adorable candy corn crafts with paper plates.

And then do the same to the top corners (the yellow part).  Paper plate candy corn is so cute!

Supplies Needed to Make No Sew DIY Minnie Mouse Ears

The supplies listed are the ones we used to make the project as shown in this post.  Feel free to modify to work with supplies you already have on hand!

  • Two black dessert sized paper plates
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue and hot glue gun
  • Plain headband
  • Polka dotted ribbon – for Minnie Mouse ears only

Instructions for Making Paper Plate Mouse Ears

We think your mind is going to be blown with how FAST and EASY these mouse ears are made!  Read these instructions AND check out our project video at the end of the post, too!

Begin by tracing a soup can, jar lid, or other round object onto a black paper plate.  Trace the round object in the center of the paper plate, making sure to leave the paper plate rim out of the traced circle shape.  Create your own mouse ears headband with paper plates!

Next, cut out that circle, making sure to leave the rim attached to the bottom part of the paper plate circle.  Cut out the mouse ear from the paper plate.

Trace that shape onto the second black paper plate and cut that piece out, too.  Get ready to glue your Mickey Mouse ears to a headband!

Now you have two ears, so get your headband and plug in the hot glue gun.

Once the hot glue is ready to go, bend the flaps at the bottoms of the paper plate circles backwards, and fill the flaps with hot glue (one flap at a time).  Learn how to make your own Minnie Mouse ears headband in this post!

Carefully place the headband into the flap and bend the flap around the headband, forming a seal between the flap and the back of the paper plate circle.

Glue the paper plate ears to the headband.

Repeat this process with the second ear, too.   At this point you have a set of DIY Mickey Mouse ears ready to go!

It's so easy to make your own Mickey Mouse ears with paper plates!

If you want to make Minnie Mouse ears instead, make a bow with polka dotted ribbon.  Minnie Mouse seems to prefer red ribbon or pink ribbon, but you could use any color you like!

Pro Tip: we used wired ribbon to get the nice dimensional shape in our ribbon.  Unwired ribbon will not be as “puffy” and will lie flatter.

Red polka dotted ribbon helps transform Mickey Mouse ears into Minnie Mouse ears!

Put hot glue on the back of the bow and press the bow onto the paper plate ears, and your DIY Minnie Mouse ears are complete!  Hot glue the bow to the ears.

See! We told you these DIY mouse ears would come together in a snap!  Make sure to share a picture of your DIY Mickey Mouse ears on our Facebook page!  We’d love to see them.  These are the EASIEST DIY Minnie Mouse ears ever! And guess what? They're made with paper plates! Click through for the tutorial, and to see how to make Mickey Mouse ears, too!
