What makes this Halloween party game so special?  The larger than life candy corn, of course!

Use paper plates to create an adorable and fun Halloween counting game for preschoolers.

So here’s the scoop on how you can make this game for the young kids in your life, too!

Begin by making the super easy Paper Plate Candy Corn Craft that we shared at that link.  We promise that it’s so easy to create large candy corn game pieces in no time at all!

Once you’ve made the candy corn, the next step is simple!  Get a permanent marker and write a different number and the word for that number on each piece of candy corn.

Paper plate candy corns become a fun game for young children.

Depending on the ages of the children playing this candy corn game, it may also be helpful to draw the correct amount of dots on each game piece.  For example, two dots on the number 2 candy corn.

Make as many game pieces as you like.  This can totally vary depending on the ages and abilities of the children playing.  For preschoolers you may want to go up to ten, for example.

This is great! See how you can turn a paper plate into a fun counting game for Halloween!

Once you’ve finished writing the numbers on the game pieces, you’re ready to let the kids play!

Using real candy corn as pieces, let the children place the correct amount of candy corn onto the corresponding paper plate candy corn pieces.  For the ones they get correct, the children could eat the real candy corn or take it home in a plastic bag as a prize.

Supplies Needed to Make a Recycled Ring Toss Game

As with all projects on Paper Plate Fun, these are the supplies we used to make the project as shown in this post.  We encourage you to improvise and use supplies you have on hand already!

  • Empty shoebox or cardboard box
  • Kraft wrapping paper
  • Scotch tape
  • Washi tape or decorative paper tape
  • Paper towel roll
  • Hot glue gun and hot glue
  • Paper plates
  • Scissors

Instructions for Making a Recycled Ring Toss Game

You’ll be able to easily put together this recycled ring toss game in under 15 minutes!  It’s so fast and simple!

Step One

Make sure the shoebox or cardboard box is empty, and wrap it with wrapping paper.  We used brown kraft paper for a ring toss game that works in all seasons, but a fun variation for a holiday class party would be to use seasonal wrapping paper!  Recycled materials like this shoebox are used to make a fun recycled ring toss game!

Step Two

Next, take the empty paper towel roll and use the scissors to cut slits in the bottom of the roll, approximately 1/4″ long each.  Cut them all the way around the bottom of the roll.  Learn how to make a recycled ring toss game in this post!

Step Three

Gently fold the slits on the bottom of the paper towel roll outward.  This will form a base, which makes it easier to glue the paper towel roll to the shoebox.  A paper towel roll becomes the ring holder in recycled ring toss.

Step Four

Hot glue the paper towel roll to the middle of the shoebox.  The hot glue forms a sturdy bond and makes the ring toss sturdy.  We don’t recommend that you use school glue for this project!Learn how to make your own ring toss game in this post! It's easy and uses recycled materials.

Step Five

Next, we used washi tape (or decorative paper tape), to decorate both the shoebox and the paper towel roll.  This was a quick and easy way to add vibrant color to our recycled ring toss game!  Decorate the recycled ring toss game with colorful washi tape.

If you don’t have washi tape on hand, decorate your recycled ring toss game with decorative wrapping paper, stickers, markers, crayons, or anything else decorative!

Step Six

Finally, cut the center circles out of several paper plates.  The paper plates with centers removed are the rings in this recycled ring toss game!  Make flying rings for recycled ring toss with paper plates.

Feel free to decorate the rings in any way you like, or leave them plain!

Step Seven

Now your recycled ring toss game is ready to play!  Have kids line up and see how many rings they can toss onto the paper towel tube.  Make this recycled ring toss game with supplies from the recycling bin, like boxes and paper plates! It's a great class party game or activity to keep the kids entertained! This DIY game is sure to be a hit.
