July 22, 2019

Somewhere over the rainbow . . . teachers, parents or camp counselors got 20 minutes of peace while their children made these adorable DIY rainbow pencil toppers to give their pencils extra pizzaz!  This rainbow themed kids craft is one of the best crafts for kids because it is so cheap to make and only requires supplies that just about everyone has!  It is an excellent Vacation Bible School craft, back-to-school craft, St. Patrick’s Day craft, Pride month craft, or just because craft – because really, who doesn’t love a rainbow?!?

This is so cute! See how to turn a paper plate into DIY rainbow pencil toppers! What a cute kids craft to celebrate back-to-school, summer camp, Vacation Bible School and more!

Instructions for Making DIY Rainbow Pencil Toppers

Each paper plate will make approximately 8 rainbow pencil toppers in a short amount of time, making this kids craft super budget-friendly!

Step One

Begin by using a red marker to draw along the edge of a paper plate. If the paper plate has a flat edge along the top, do not color on that edge – begin coloring on the inner rim of the paper plate.  Love this easy kids craft! Turn a paper plate into cute rainbow pencil toppers!

Step Two

Continue coloring lines with the markers until a rainbow rim has been drawn around the entire paper plate.  Rainbow pencil toppers are a fun and cheap kids craft!

Step Three

Use the scissors to cut off the white edge of the paper plate.  Paper plates become rainbow pencil toppers in this fun back to school craft.

Step Four

Cut into the paper plate and then cut out the white circle from the middle of the paper plate.  Use a paper plate to make adorable DIY rainbow pencil toppers.

Step Five

Use the scissors to cut the rainbow edge of the paper plate into smaller rainbow pieces – approximately 3″ long each.  It's so fun and easy to turn a paper plate into a rainbow craft!

Step Six

Cut out small cloud shapes from the middle piece of the paper plate.  Kids love making rainbow pencil toppers! The middle of the paper plate is used as the clouds for the rainbow.

Step Seven

Use the gluestick to glue the cloud pieces to the ends of the rainbow pieces.  Use one paper plate to make lots of rainbow pencil toppers!

Step Eight

Once the glue has dried, use the scissors to carefully cut two slits in the middle of each paper plate rainbow piece – one slit near the top of the rainbow (red/orange area), and another slit near the bottom of the rainbow (blue/purple area).  Gently folding the rainbow piece in half makes cutting the slits much easier!  Rainbow pencil toppers made with a paper plate are a fun craft for kids.Use a paper plate to make adorable rainbow pencil toppers.

Step Nine

Finally, carefully push a pencil through the slits to place the rainbow pencil toppers onto the pencils!  DIY Rainbow Pencil Toppers are such a cute and inexpensive craft for kids!
